me?... skate board?

I've always had a very nice  group of friends from highschool and ever since we graduated we all started discovering our skills, prefences and choosing different paths. Some of my very closed ones decided they were very talented for skate boarding... and of course, it came along with skiing and surfing and all those fun sports where they balance in a little flat piece of "something"...
My talent stays with brushes and paper... But I've always wanted to join them and have as much fun as they have while doing it
So... there, me having fun with skateboarding!!

Hope you like it!

Julia's Phone

The other day I ran into my friend Julia. She was holding in her hand a very big pink handset that look like it was for a grandma style phone...
I thought to my self, wow she really must like this handset to be carrying it around... And then the inevitable question...BUT where is the rest of the phone?

"It's for my IPhone silly!" she said...
I totally fell in love of it!

PS The exhibition went great!

let it flow

Ink, Watercolor and photoshop...!

While doing this illustration I said to my self I was not going to worry about the result and let the brushes just flow... and I did... and I have to be honest, the final wasn't mind blowing, it was exactly that: relaxed and imprecise. But then I tried some watercolors... and I tried some photoshop layering... and here it is, something better, something interesting, and I learned in the process =)

So here it is, just for you guys enjoy... your friday!

alexa chung

Illustration for today... the beautiful Alexa Chung behind her sweater.
Lately I have been having a lot of fun trying new tools and effects with Photoshop.
Even though the original illustration was made with watercolor, in this case, when I scan  and prepare to post, I can't help but start trying a little something here and there...saturation, contrast, color, the possibilities are endless!! and they just make the illustration even more fun ;)

my RayBan elephant

A few months ago I was working on a project about animals, and I got so inspired by these creatures that I wanted to illustrate them... at the end the idea evolved  and ended up in this Ray Ban elephant that I like very much...=)  It reminds me of my friend Eva, she is 100% RayBan girl...

story of a girl

How about a little story for today?

 The Inspiration

The search... the endless sketching

 The finding

 The temporary hate

 More searching...

The satisfaction, the mini final

The total bliss.. the big final...

AKA Cedric

Even though I am pretty sure I would never wear my hair like this except may be for halloween... I think her hair is gorgeous =)

It was a present I made last Christmas, so after a few small and big sketches and tries...the original in big size (for what I am used to) 16"x16" is hanging in NYC Private Hair Salon AKA CEDRIC

PS The owner and I loved it =)

Happy Saturday

4th time is a charm

I guess it was passion and stubbornness (and little pride I guess) that made me not let go and give up,  but to keep trying (4 times to be exact) until the illustration was something I was satisfied with... And at the end, it was worth the extra time and effort  'cause I love it!

I like the way pencil and illustration work together, there is a nostalgic gray feeling that flips with the intensity and life of watercolor.

I hope you like it too!!!

Elle UK 25th Anniversary

Rainy day in NYC. Looking through my window, I see soft blurred buildings on the other side of the Hudson River in grayish tones.
Great day to watch a movie, drink lots of tea and make it a family day.
So...lets do it! =)

For their 25th anniversary edition, ELLE UK created five different covers.
I found the first one of the collection on the web and thought I would do an illustration to send it back to ELLE team... do you guess who is in the cover??

I have been practicing on portraits, to make the illustrations tell you who am I talking about... so any clue on this one?
Kate Hudson... =) could you tell?

I'll keep working on it!

Maite's look

Summer in NY is always very exciting,
and very hot of course.
Last week  my studio building had AC problems, so all the studios
were like ovens, literally, for almost 5 days...!!!
Any way it's fixed now and it feels great! You don't know
what you have until you loose it right?... so happy to have AC back.

This is an illustration of my good friend Maite.
When I saw her picture on fcbk  I totally
fell in love with her daring look
and the attitude altogether!!

Hope you like it!
Nice nice weekend! Stay cool! =)

And for the final try...

One day I was trying to get a very specific effect done in a illustration.
I painted the same image over and over again.... I was getting so frustrated because it just didn't seem to come out good!!! At all!!!

And finally I relaxed. I said, Ok it doesn't matter I am  going to do it one more time just for fun... and look what I got!!!!

I loved it!!!! I didn't just drew this one that I loved also a huge smile in my face...

"Practice is not something that we do when we are good, practice is the thing that make us good...!"

It feels so long!!

I know, it's been like forever since my last post.

I've been working in a very interesting project. A friend wants me to illustrate an advertisement campaign for TV commercial with my illustrations!!!! It's a little different to what I' used to do because there have to be several illustration to create the animation and movement and they all have to be very accurate....So They have to be done by computer and I have to confess I know very little about it... so I bought a book online, and thought that was the solution to the problem, but.......... it didn't arrived until today!! I was a little desperate and struggling with photoshop. But we all know that the more we practice the better we become.

I'm missing my water colors and real brushes though!!! I did this illustration a couple of weeks ago and really had fun painting it. It is inspired in H&M summer campaign and I loved the image...

Hope you are having a great week so far!

The Element of Freedom

So, the exhibition was last night. I had a wonderful time, many of my friends and very good friends were there, it was a great experience.
Thank you all for being there!

I also got invited to Alicia Keys concert.
It was very fun.
The concept of her songs and the lyrics are very deep...love, true and freedom. In fact the name of the album is  "The Element of Freedom"

It makes me think, have you think about it?....
What makes us be free or not...?
What is exactly the element of freedom?

To me....OURSELVES.

Yoguiiii

I must confess that I have another passion in addition to illustration....
YoGa!!!I started a year and a half ago and  I just looooove it...!

One of my very favorites teachers is leaving for San Francisco in a month. It's kind of sad we are not having him in the practice anymore, but life is about that: changes and our reaction to those changes...

Any way, I thought I could post this for him

JD were are so going to miss you!
